perhaps, suffering is tossed by handfuls over the multitudes, with most of it falling on some people and little or none of it on others.
it must have been a long while since i’ve pardoned myself for lying so useless the entire day — no thanks to the bed weather — starting and (almost) finishing this read in my already tired couch. what could be wrong with me, ever being so dramatically drawn to harrowing lyrical proses such as this? 😅
i was hopping from shelf to shelf the day of the sale, trying to spot anything familiar and failing until the word “implacable” in cursive font appealed to me. underscored by the conscious thought of trying something by a foreign author, i gambled on this Portuguese hard-bound. my expectations amounted to nil.
now though, having gone a third of the way in less than a day, i ask: how dare whoever marked this lesser-known masterpiece as “discard” in the national library? but thanks (anyway) that it worked for me, having gotten this for zero dollars, making it a steal in more ways than one!
